When you first log in to Canvas, the standard language is set to English. Every user, both teachers and students, can choose language.

As a teacher, you can overrun the users’ chosen language by choosing language in the course. If you do this, the course language will overrun the account language. Meaning, all participants and students view the buttons in the same language. The only situation this can be useful, is when the course is in English. We will get back to this setting later in the course.

How to change account language:

Click Account, then Settings.
Click Edit settings (to the right).
Choose Norsk (Bokmål) in the field Language (approx. center of screen) and click Update Settings.

NB Make sure you do not choose Norsk (Bokmål) GS/VGS. This setting is for the elementary school and may therefore be confusing. Your chosen Canvas language is now Norwegian. This goes for all pages in Canvas, in the global menu and all courses where the account language is not overrun.

Notifications from Canvas

Canvas can send you several different notifications by email. The standard setting for most of them is off, but you can adjust this after your needs.

To change your settings, click Account and then Notifications.

If you want more details about a notification, you can hover your mouse cursor over it. A pop-up info box will appear, with a short description.

All notifications have four different settings:

Immediate notice (the notice is immediately sent to your email).
Daily summary (a summary of all events is sent to you by the end of the day).
Weekly summary (a summary of all events is sent to you by the end of the week).
Do not send me anything (no emails from this notification).

Click the preferred setting for each notification.

Notifications from chosen courses only

It is not possible to receive notifications from chosen courses only. This function has been planned (by the developers of Canvas), but is not available by now.
